  • At the premiere for the movie Michael, the songwriter and producer talked about their legacy and competition

  • Jackson died in 2009 at age 50, while Prince died in 2016 at age 57

Michael JacksonandPrincemay have been in competition with each other on the charts, but ultimately, they respected each other. That is, according to Jimmy Jam, who worked with both of them.

Speaking with PEOPLE at the Hollywood premiere ofMichaelon April 20, the songwriter and producer, 66, shares that he thinks they “probably were both competitive, but they also were very respectful of each other.”

“The way they went about doing what they do is totally different. I always say Prince would start a record at the beginning of the day, and at the end of the day, the record would be totally done, mixed, ready to go. Very spontaneous. That's the way Prince did it," he shares.

On the other hand, Jimmy Jam notes that “Michael was very meticulous.”

“I remember, on ‘Scream,’ we literally spent three days changing one line, and he just said, ‘We have to challenge ourselves.’ And we finally were like, ‘Okay, we're done challenging that. It sounds great. It sounds great.’ "

Jackson died at the age of 50 on June 25, 2009. He suffered cardiac arrest at home. Meanwhile, Prince died of an accidental fentanyl overdose at Paisley Park, his home and recording studio in Chanhassen, Minn., at age 57 on April 21, 2016.

In Jimmy Jam’s mind, they were “two different individuals in the way they create,” but he insists “they both admired each other," even if they seemingly feuded during their careers, so much so that it's rumored thatPrince skipped out on the supergroup recordingof "We Are the World" in 1985 due to Jackson's involvement.

“Which doesn't mean they necessarily would have got along in the studio creating, because they did it in a different way, but Prince was definitely influenced by Michael, and I think Michael was definitely influenced by Prince,” Jimmy Jam adds.

About Prince, Jimmy Jam tells PEOPLE, “There's not a day that goes by that I don't think about him or think about what would he do in a certain situation.”

In addition, Vasquez was allegedly subjected to "repeated demeaning comments referencing [her] Salvadoran origin and immigration status, insinuations that coworkers of similar background had been deported, [and] boasting about United States citizenship in a manner designed to demean Plaintiff as a work authorization permit holder."

Housekeeper says she also worked at Kylie Jenner's boyfriend's home

She alleges that after raising concerns about her treatment around November 2024, Vasquez was mocked by her two supervisors, with "no remedial action" taken. Instead, she says, the "mistreatment" escalated and she experienced retaliation. After she lodged another complaint in March 2025, Vasquez claims, "a supervisor threw hangers at Plaintiff's feet while reprimanding her."

Vasquez called the working conditions "so intolerable, hostile, and unlawful" that a "reasonable person" in her position "would have felt compelled to resign," the lawsuit states. Vasquez quit in August, 11 months after her employment began.

Jenner and the companies, La Maison Family Services and Tri Star Services, should be held liable because they "knew or should have known of the harassment and failed to take immediate and appropriate corrective action to stop the conduct and prevent its recurrence," Vasquez's lawsuit argues.

Among Vasquez's allegations of California Labor Code and California Fair Employment and Housing Act violations are claims that she was not reimbursed for work-related expenses.

She says she was directed to work in locations other than Jenner's home, including "Jenner's boyfriend's residence on multiple occasions." However, Vasquez alleges, she was not compensated for mileage and transportation costs.

Jenner and Timothée Chalamet have been romantically linked since 2023 and have since made several high-profile appearances at events likethe Oscarsand theGolden Globe Awards.

Vasquez is requesting a jury trial that will determine compensatory, restitution and punitive damages owed to her and asks for an injunction against the defendants that would prevent them from engaging in the conduct she'd alleged.

Trump, Nicki Minaj hold hands at DC summit

Nicki Minaj has become one of Hollywood's most outspoken Trump supporters, even calling herself his "No. 1 fan." See the rapper and singer-songwriter hold hands with President Donald Trump on stage during the U.S. Treasury Department's Trump Accounts Summit in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 28, 2026.

Self-described as Trump's "number one fan,"Minaj said in January she has the "utmost respect and admiration for our president." A Trinidadian native, Minaj's citizenship status and her endorsement of theTrump "gold cards"led some disgruntled fans tostart a petition after her Turning Point appearancein an effort to get her deported.

Minaj publicly criticized Trump's immigration policies during his first term, saying in 2018 she had come to the U.S. "illegally"as a child and that she couldn't imagine the "horror of being in a strange place & having my parents stripped away from me at the age of 5."

She became vocal about her pivot to a more pro-MAGA viewpoint early in Trump's second presidency, telling Katie Miller, host of the "Katie Miller Podcast,"that she felt the president had been subject to "bullying."

"A lot of that bullying, and the smear campaigns and all of the lying, I felt that that had been done to me for so many years," she told Miller. "And I was watching it in real time happen to someone else, and I didn't think he deserved it."
